Update on COVID-19 situation in Lithuania

As of the 17th of June, Lithuania will no longer be in quarantine. However, some restrictions are still in place and limit the possibilities for public event organization.

Firstly, the amount of people who can participate in public events is limited but will gradually increase in time: 17th-30th of June – up to 150, and 1st-16th of July – up to 200 for inside events, and so on. Persons must still keep safe distance of at least 1 m and the length of the event should be as short as possible.

Secondly, there are still restrictions for movement between country borders. As of 17th of June the restrictions will be lighter, however, only persons from EU economic zone, Switzerland and UK will be allowed in, and only if during the last 14 days the number of COVID-19 cases in their country of origin does not exceed 25 cases per 100 thousand citizens. Currently, visitors from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland are allowed without restrictions. People coming from Belgium and Ireland need to self isolate for 14 days, and people from Sweden, UK, and Portugal ar not allowed to enter Lithuania. This list of countries will be updated every week by Lithuanian government.

The 6-8th of October is still a long way from now, and looking at the current situation we are hopeful that the conference will happen. However, in case there is a second outbreak of COVID-19 or travel restrictions will remain very limited, we will have to postpone the event again. Our goal for SIRWEC2020 is to have a live meeting of colleagues from all around the world and we feel that an online conference is not enough. We will keep you updated on any significant changes.

We wish you all the best,
SIRWEC2020 team
